Visit the Angel Room

Every last Sunday of the month, the Angel Room is open to visitors. In this special room, our textile volunteers work with endless patience to preserve historical fabrics. During your visit, they will be happy to tell you about their work, the importance of textiles for the House and the projects they are currently working on.

Noble sustainability

The Angels' work symbolises sustainability in its purest form: taking care of what you have and preserving the castle as it was. Currently, among other things, curtains from the 19th century are being conserved. Here, the focus is not only on conservation, but also on the story behind the textiles. You will see how light and air affect fabrics and how organic materials, like trees and plants, change with time and their environment.

Economy with diligence

'He who keeps what, has what.' Nowhere is this saying more visible than with Amerongen Castle's textile collection. Whereas in many castle interiors original upholstery has disappeared or been replaced by replicas, Amerongen Castle has a unique collection of historical textiles. These masterpieces tell different stories and together form valuable cultural-historical heritage with great museum and social significance.
