Climb one of the most extraordinary church towers in the Netherlands
The church tower of the Old Nicolaaskerk appears in every architecture book. Italian architect Allesandro Pasqualini built it in 1532, commissioned by the baron of IJsselstein, Floris van Egmond. The latter had been in Italy impressed by all the beauty he saw there. The Pasqualini tower is the oldest and first Renaissance building above the Alps. Very special is the spire that was installed in 1924 to the design of Amsterdam School master builder Michel de Klerk. During the climbs, you will hear the story of one of the most extraordinary church towers in the Netherlands and also enjoy beautiful views of IJsselstein.
