St Nicholas’s arrival
On Saturday 21 November 2026, it’s that time of year again: Sinterklaas and his helpers will be paying a festive visit to IJsselstein. Will you be there to welcome Sinterklaas?
St Nicholas arrives by boat from the direction of Montfoort at the Hazenveld. From there, St Nicholas and his helpers, the Pieten, set off on a festive procession through the historic town centre of IJsselstein. At the Historic Town Hall, he receives the key to the town, as is traditional.
After the parade, Sinterklaas will continue on his way past the various shopping centres in IJsselstein. This means even more children will have the chance to greet Sinterklaas and his helpers!

After such a festive and busy day, it’s time to rest. After all, Sinterklaas still has plenty to do over the coming weeks! This year, Sinterklaas is staying in the city centre, at 25 Benschopperstraat. You can pop round there to say a cosy goodnight to him and his helpers.

Piet Day in the city centre
Are you flexible, agile and ready for some proper ‘Piet’ tricks? On Saturday 28 November, IJsselstein town centre will be all about Piet Day! A cheerful afternoon full of exercise, fun and, of course, Sinterklaas and his Pieten.
The festive day begins at 12 noon at Sinterklaas’s lodgings at 25 Benschopperstraat. There, we’ll wake Sinterklaas up together, as we’ve got a special day ahead!
Then it’s time to get stuck in yourself. Under the guidance of Circus Tadaa, you can try out all sorts of fun ‘Piet’ tricks. Test your balance, show off your most flexible moves and find out if you’ve got what it takes to become a real ‘Piet’. Who knows, you might even impress Sinterklaas!

Piet reads aloud
On Saturday 14 November, Piet will be reading aloud at the Library from 3.00 pm to 3.45 pm. You’re welcome to come along from 2.50 pm. Listen, dance and sing along, and have your photo taken with Piet!
Sweets and marzipan
The Sinterklaas season is also all about sweets, chocolate and pepernoten. We have plenty of these tasty treats in our little town. Stock up on sweets for a cosy evening at home and enjoy everything that goes with presents and pepernoten.
