Exhibition Montfoort through the centuries

At Stadsmuseum De Knoperij, you will take a fascinating journey through Montfoort's rich history. In the permanent exhibition Montfoort through the ages, you will discover how the town developed from a medieval fortress to the Montfoort of today. A clear timeline brings the most important moments in the city's history to life with images and stories.

It takes you past illustrious viscounts and the castle, the administration of the city in the Old Town Hall and the acquisition of city rights. Radical events, such as the destruction of the castle by the French, are also covered. In addition, attention is paid to the era of the button-makers, a craft that characterised Montfoort for a long time. So you get a complete and accessible picture of the town's past.

Besides the permanent presentation, you will be introduced to special collections from the Oudheidskamer. Diverse museum objects are kept here, such as utensils, paintings, old tools and unique memorabilia. Old photographs, engravings and postcards give a personal insight into daily life in the past and make history tangible for young and old.
