In the exhibition Blood, sweat and tears - the world of the handkerchief, you will discover how this everyday object has acquired special meaning over the centuries. From practical tool to symbol of remembrance, fashion and protest: the handkerchief turns out to be more versatile than you think.

The exhibition brings together art, cultural history and personal stories. You will see special objects from national collections, complemented by contributions from Woerden-based amateur artists. Artist Eline Janssens developed new work especially for this exhibition, in which she depicts the themes around the handkerchief in a contemporary way. It also focuses on the meaning of the handkerchief within the Moluccan community in Woerden, where the 'lenso' plays an important symbolic role. Through visual material and interviews, you get an insight into this rich tradition.
