Sleep whilst farm life carries on
Staying overnight on a farm means that life on the farmyard carries on as usual. At De Spaanse Ruiter, you can look out over the fields from your accommodation, whilst outside the cows are being milked and fed and the pigs are roaming about. You’re welcome to watch the work and ask questions. What’s more, you can walk straight onto a Klompenpad from the farmyard.
At Boerderij Hazenveld, you’ll stay right in the heart of the Green Heart. Choose from a B&B, a studio or – during the camping season – a pitch at the mini-campsite or the motorhome area. Stroll along the Hazenpad through the meadows or cycle towards Kasteel de Haar and Utrecht.
Waking up amongst the meadows
You’ll also find peace, space and plenty of greenery at B&B Oud Aa. This characteristic farmhouse, dating from 1860, is situated amidst meadows, with lakes and small villages in the surrounding area. It’s a lovely base from which to explore the countryside around Breukelen on foot or by bike. 
At Camping Bij Groen Geluk in the Green Heart, you can go camping or choose from a range of accommodation options, such as a safari tent, Tiny Lodge, studio or flat. Local food is also part of the experience here: at weekends during the season, you can sit down to a local breakfast, prepared using organic, regional and seasonal produce.
Step straight out of bed into the countryside
At B&B Cosy Woods in Rhenen, the adventure begins almost on your doorstep: a forest path runs literally right next to the B&B. You’ll be staying right next to the Kwintelooijen nature reserve and the ‘ Utrechtse Heuvelrug ’, meaning you can walk straight into the woods from your suite.
You’ll find a completely different kind of green setting at Huize Randenbroek. This listed country house is situated in the heart of Randenbroek Park in Amersfoort and comprises eight flats. Take a morning stroll amongst the park’s ancient trees and water features, then walk straight on to the historic city centre.
A night on the Waterlinie
Nature, heritage and accommodation come together at Waterlinie Lodges. The seven boutique lodges are tucked away amidst the greenery of the New Dutch Waterline, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can walk or cycle straight into the countryside, whilst Utrecht city centre is only about a ten-minute cycle ride away.
For an even closer connection to history, stay at Fort WKU. Within the fort’s walls, you’ll wake up surrounded by greenery and birdsong. During the day, you can explore the grounds, see what’s growing in the vegetable garden, take to the water in a canoe or on a SUP, or relax on the terrace.
