Fort on the Ossenmarkt, in the fortified city of Weesp, was built to defend both banks of the river Vecht, the sluices and the Amsterdam-Hilversum railway line that crosses the river here. The tower fort on the Ossenmarkt (ox market) dates back to 1861. These days, it houses several businesses. The former engineering yard is now home to a garden centre, while the wooden artillery shed serves as an exhibition space. Other occupants of the building include a number of associations and a music school. While not freely accessible to the public, the fort is partially open to visitors on special occasions.
