Estate The Tree

With an area of over 1100ha, Landgoed De Boom is one of the largest estates in the province of Utrecht. It is a varied and well-preserved hedgerow landscape between Leusden, Woudenberg, Achterveld and De Glind. The farms and houses on the estate can be recognised by their blue shutters, sometimes with a white mirror.

The estate was founded by the noble De Beaufort family, in the person of Mr Arnoud Jan de Beaufort. He was also mayor of Leusden. The last owner, Anna Aleida de Beaufort, Miss Annie, brought the family estate under a foundation to prevent fragmentation. The Tree Foundation strives for a sustainable future and supports social activities in the area.

De Boom country estate is a fine example of a cultural landscape that largely still looks as it did when it was mined. In many other places in the Valley, wooded banks, alder belts and bushes have disappeared over the years. In this varied landscape with flowery grasslands and small-scale vegetation, roe deer, badger, barn swallow, little owl and kingfisher feel very much at home.

Walking tip: Through the park forest around the manor house runs the very first wooden shoes path "Schutpad", which you can combine with the "Termatenpad".

Cycling tip: "Op de pedalen met juffrouw Annie", a 23km route along properties in Leusden that were owned by Anna Aleida de Beaufort (Juffrouw Annie).
