Woerden Castle

Woerden Castle is the town's most imposing monument. The start of construction of this castle dates from as early as 1415. The first resident was the steward Heynric Hermans, who was the landlord and represented Duke Jan van Beieren, of Brabant. The Castle has played an important role in the town’s history for centuries, from a prestigious residence for important citizens of Woerden to a military hospital. For more than 600 years, this amazing location has been a venue for consultations, celebrations and meals, and the tradition is still continued as a setting for the greatest variety of celebrations, meetings and other events.
