Highlights of Wijk
Walk from TOP Stadshaven along the Lek and Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal where you can get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the expansive views. The walk continues through green spaces and ends at Kasteel Duurstede, one of the oldest and most beautiful castles in the Netherlands, situated on an island. You then continue walking through the cosy old town with the Market Square, the Grote Kerk and the Peperstraat with shops and galleries. This is followed by the Inundation sluice, Molen Rijn en Lek, the Walmuur and the Waterpoort. In short, lots of beautiful things to see during this walk through Wijk bij Duurstede!
Castle Duurstede
This beautiful medieval castle, situated on an island, has a striking entrance by means of a drawbridge over the moat. The castle is not free to visit, but from the surrounding peaceful city park there is plenty of castle beauty to see.
