Walking route Plofsluis via the Batteries

1 hour 30 minutes (6 km)

This walking route takes you past the Plofsluis lock and Fort de Batterijen. This area is in a hidden green oasis in the middle of the Netherlands with ponds, meadows and fruit orchards.

The walking route passes the Plofsluis lock, a lock with a giant concrete container with 40 million kilos of rubble above it and explosives to blow it all up. And Kasteel Heemstede, a castle-like country house from 1645, which burned down almost completely in 1987. What was left of the castle was neglected until 1999 when it was thoroughly restored and enriched with a beautiful restaurant. You will also pass Fort de Batterijen which you can visit.

The walking route can end at Down Under where you can find catering, activities, water sports and beaches.
