Fort de Bilt
Fort De Bilt is located on the east side of Utrecht near the Berekuil. It is divided in two by the road from Utrecht to De Bilt and Zeist. The northern part houses the Stichting Vredeseducatie with the educational 'Remembrance Centre for the Future'. Here, pupils learn about prejudice, diversity, bullying and the scapegoat phenomenon in an interactive exhibition. The history of the resistance in World War II is linked to children's lifeworlds. The southern part of the fort is in use by the Royal Military Police and not accessible.

A piece of history
The Fort op de Bildtstraat or Fort Biltsetraatweg was built between 1816 and 1819 and had to seal off the entrance on the east side of Utrecht. The road was then routed around it. Due to increasing traffic, the Biltsestraatweg was widened in 1930 and drawn right through the fort. This divided the fort and the bombproof barracks in two. During World War II, 140 men were executed at the fort. A monument, a belfry, the death bunker and nameplates commemorate this event. An annual commemoration of the fallen resistance fighters takes place at the monument.
