Museum Lopikerkapel

Hofstede te Vliet was, as far as is known today, the first of two defensible (defendable) houses of the court Zevenhoven in 1314, and together with the still existing Huis te Vliet the origin of our present-day Lopikerkapel.

Between 1983 and 1985, trial excavations were carried out at Hofstede Te Vliet in Lopikerkapel by the archaeological working group South West Utrecht led by R.J. Ooyevaar. Hofstede te Vliet no longer exists, but as one of the first dwellings of the village of Lopikerkapel until c.1400, it was located in the land behind Lopikerweg Oost 154. The village of Lopikerkapel developed around the fortified Hofstede te Vliet and the still-existing Huis te Vliet.

The found collection was restored between 1986 and 1987 and was displayed in his archaeological attic in IJsselstein until Mr Ooyevaar's death. The Lopikerkapel Foundation took over many of the finds in order to preserve a piece of history of the beautiful village for the future.

Mini-museum in community centre d'Ouwe School
Museum Lopikerkapel is located in community centre d'Ouwe school on Lopikerweg Oost 181 and can be visited on Saturdays between 16:00 and approx.20:00 during opening hours of the community centre.
