Eel smoking - Zuyderzee cup

In Spakenburg, eel smoking is one of the old crafts that, thanks to revived interest in the culture of our past, is still practised. Once a year, therefore, an eel-smoking competition is organised, where the best smokers 'battle it out' with each other. Those smokers come from Spakenburg, but also from other fishing towns around the former Zuiderzee. The prestigious prize is therefore also called: The Zuyderzee Cup. Because from which place around that Zuiderzee come the best smokers?

Apart from that, it is a super fun day every year, dressed up with demonstrations of old crafts and, of course, cosy music, packed terraces and the botters in the beautiful museum harbour. You can not only watch those, you can also sail on them.
