Light in the darkness

In the dark month of December, the National Glass Museum in Leerdam welcomes you to an enchanting world of light and glass. With the exhibition Light in Darkness, you will discover the fascinating development in lamp designs, from the first electric lights in 1925 to contemporary masterpieces. From icons like Andries Copier and Jaap Gidding to innovative artists like Studio Aikina and Kiki van Eijk. The exhibition shows how glass, as a translucent, malleable and colourable material, has been loved by designers over the past 100 years. Even now, as can be seen in the glassworks of the National Glass Museum where designers and glassblowers collaborate on new lamp designs. In the glassworks, you can experiment to see what all is possible. Several lamps shown in the Light in Darkness exhibition were developed in the glassworks and later put into production in factory glassworks.The Light in Darkness exhibition takes visitors through the development of lamp designs since the advent of electric light in 1925.
