Park Lepelenburg is a lively park on the edge of Utrecht's old city centre. It is part of the larger Zocherpark, and a popular spot for picnics, sports and enjoying the sun.
History
Originally, Lepelenburg was a house that stood on this spot, but right next to it an earthen bastion arose in the 16th century, which was part of Utrecht's defences. Around 1860, the bastion was transformed into the current park by landscape architect Jan David Zocher jr.
Events
Today, the park with its green lawns, music tent and children's playground is a popular spot among locals. On warm days, young and old come to the park in large numbers with picnic blankets and barbecues, and this beautiful spot is thoroughly enjoyed.
Park Lepelenburg also regularly hosts entertaining events, live music and theatre.
