Fort Honswijk, beautifully located on the river Lek, is a cultural-historical and landscape icon. It forms the monumental heart of the most complete waterline landscape in the Netherlands, the so-called Defence Line of Honswijk, just south of Utrecht. It is also the oldest and largest tower fortress of the Netherlands' largest national monument. Besides its location, the tower of Fort Honswijk is of extraordinary beauty. Activities
Already, many people know how to find the fort and the surrounding waterline landscape. It is a green oasis of tranquillity where you can enjoy hiking, cycling and canoeing. A large group of volunteers is active at the fort itself, providing, among other things, highly appreciated guided tours. Besides recreation and tourism, however, other functions can be imagined at the fort. So while Fort Honswijk once served the great, national task of national defence, today it wants to provide space for new initiatives that benefit society.
